Are Madonna And Britney Spears Collaborating On MDNA?

Amid rumors that Spears will appear on Madge's 'Girls Gone Wild,' MTV News looks back at their history together.

<P>Could it be that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/madonna/artist.jhtml">Madonna</a> has enlisted her pal <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> for <a href="/news/articles/1678197/madonna-mdna-album.jhtml"><i>MDNA</i></a>? </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:623135.id:1657989" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Well, according to a leaked album jacket, it seems that Spears is making an appearance on the album's lead track, "Girls Gone Wild." This would mark the second collaboration on the album. Madonna nabbed Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. for the album's first single, <a href="/news/articles/1678478/madonna-give-me-all-your-luvin-video.jhtml">"Give Me All Your Luvin'."</a> While the leaked jacket, which appeared on Britney fansite <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/2012/02/britney-on-new-madonna-album/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed" target="_blank">Breatheheavy.com</a>, can't be confirmed as authentic, a rep for Madge had no comment about the rumor, neither confirming nor denying it. Meanwhile, a rep for Spears never returned MTV News' request for comment. This is hardly the first time that the two ladies have worked together. In fact, they have quite a history with each other. The duo kicked off their nearly decade-long friendship at the 2003 VMAs when, in case you hadn't heard, they <a href="/news/articles/1669706/britney-spears-mtv-vma-history.jhtml">shared an onstage kiss</a> while performing together. It was the kiss seen and heard around the world, and nearly 10 years later it is still often talked about as one of the most memorable moments in the show's storied history. After they shared that smooch, Spears was inspired to get the Queen of Pop on her lead <i>In the Zone</i> single, <a href="/news/articles/1658075/britney-spears-me-against-the-music.jhtml">"Me Against the Music."</a> "I was in the middle of rehearsals for the VMAs and I played her the song, and she was like, 'That's your first single, right?' " Britney recalled in a vintage interview with MTV. "I was like, 'Yeah, hopefully.' She was like, 'I really like it.' I was like, 'Really?' I was like, 'Well, you wanna do it with me?' She said, 'Yeah.' " They later appeared together in the warehouse-set video with one another, playing a pop star cat-and-mouse game that featured a near kiss. Five years later, as Spears was prepping her return to the pop spotlight, she appeared <a href="/news/articles/1598804/britney-spears-justin-timberlake-appear-onstage-with-madonna.jhtml">onstage with Madonna</a> during a Sticky &amp; Sweet Tour stop at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The singer hit the stage with the pop icon to perform "Human Nature" by her side. That same year, Madonna appeared in <a href="/news/articles/1600361/britney-spears-talks-breakups-breakdowns-in-for-the-record.jhtml">Spears' documentary, "For the Record,"</a> where she spoke about the younger singer. "I admire her as an artist," the Material Girl said, adding that she sees a lot of herself in Spears. In 2011, as Spears was prepping the release of her album <i>Femme Fatale,</i> in an <a href="/news/articles/1659522/britney-spears-plastic-surgery-out-magazine.jhtml">interview with <i>Out</i> magazine</a>, she noted that she truly admires her friend. "Madonna. No question. She is an amazing entertainer," she said when asked whose career she most would want to emulate. As Madonna preps the release of <i>MDNA</i> in March, Spears is also the topic of conversation in a recent interview with her. When asked by ABC News what it was like to smooch the pop princess, she commented, "Nice moment, good kisser. Cool," she said, clarifying that she wouldn't do it again. "No, I already did it. I don't like to repeat myself." Well, perhaps a kiss would be "reductive" (her word, not ours), but it seems given the love that Madge and Spears fans have for the two pop stars, they wouldn't mind them cooking up some musical magic. The track, "Girls Gone Wild," was teased in a megamix that dropped last week and it certainly feels like it would lend itself to both Madonna and Brit's musical sensibilities: It's fist-pumpingly dance-y, sexy and all about going out and having a good time, with Madge proclaiming, "Girls, they just want to have some fun/ Get fired up like a smoking gun/ On the floor till the daylight comes/ Girls, they just want to have some fun." <center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:728690/cp~id%3D1672718%26vid%3D728690%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A728690%26instance%3Dmtv" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center> <i>What would you think of a new Britney Spears/ Madonna collabo? Ryan Seacrest Surprised By Sacha Baron Cohen's Oscar Stunt

'I definitely did not know that he was going to do that,' Seacrest said on his radio show on Monday.

Who better to try to flap than the unflappable Ryan Seacrest? If he could put up with Simon Cowell's constant attacks for nearly a decade, surely the 'Crest could handle a sneak attack from the Dictator.

And, true to his laser-focus reputation, when Sacha Baron Cohen's Dictator ash-bombed Seacrest on the Oscars red carpet on Sunday night, the "American Idol" host kept his composure. After all, he had to know that SBC was not just going to show up in costume, but was very likely going to create one of his infamous scenes to drive up some hype for his upcoming tyrant spoof.

"I was surprised, but not surprised. I definitely did not know that he was going to do that," Seacrest said on Monday morning (February 27) on his radio show, "On Air With Ryan Seacrest," about his surprise when Cohen "accidentally" spilled an urn filled with the purported ashes of late North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il on the TV presenter's tux. "He comes over and I asked him a couple of questions but ... you know that feeling in your gut."

Knowing that Cohen was not going to let him off that easy, Seacrest said in the back of his mind he kept thinking, "This guy isn't coming as the Dictator to not do something ... you know in your gut, you feel like, 'This is going too normally.' " And then when he saw the urn come out, Seacrest could see something coming. "It was getting closer to my chest and then it tipped over. And it wasn't the wind. He spilt it on my tuxedo."

Did we mention Seacrest is hard to rattle? The consummate professional didn't flinch because he smartly followed the advice his mother, Connie, gave him long ago when he was just a wee wannabe presenter: " 'You always want to have two jackets. You never know what's going to happen. You never know what you're going to spill on yourself and you want to be red carpet-ready at all times. That's your job.' So I had another jacket." Seacrest had a great attitude about the gag, which drew a thumbs-up from some of the other celebs MTV News talked to at Elton John's annual Oscar-viewing party and charity gala.

How do you think Ryan Seacrest handled Sacha Baron Cohen's stunt? Leave your comment below!

Finishing off her short visit to the west coast, Kristen Stewart was spotted prepping for takeoff in Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday (February 28).

The 21-year-old actress was casually dressed for her work week travels, as she toted a carry-on through the LAX terminal before hopping aboard the outbound jet.

The travels come as Miss Stewart enjoyed a low-key Oscar weekend in Tinseltown with her "Twilight" co-star beau Robert Pattinson.

Of seeing the pair at the WME pre-party on Friday night, a source told E!, "They were just being their usual low-key, chill selves."

Another insider at the private soiree added, "They were like everybody else. You know, sweet and for sure together, not showy."

'Hunger Games' And 'Twilight' Oddly Absent From Oscars

'Harry Potter,' meanwhile, was shut out of its two nominations — but couldn't the YA franchises' stars get involved?
By Kara Warner

There's still a lot to discuss and digest from the 2012 Oscars, from the glitz and glamour, to the surprises, snubs and glaring omissions.

Speaking to the snubs and omissions category, MTV News couldn't help but notice that, for an awards show designed to appeal to all movie fans, three of the most buzz-worthy film franchises of the last decade were mostly left out of the festivities: "Harry Potter," "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games."

This is not a story about the lack of nominations for the films; we've already complained about the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" shutout and "The Hunger Games" hasn't even been released yet. But why not involve a few of these noteworthy films' castmembers in the telecast? We consulted a few experts on the subject.

"I think this year is more glaring than most, for sure," said Entertainment Weekly senior writer Sara Vilkomerson. "Personally, I'm surprised there was not a lot of 'Potter' stuff; that was a very lucrative franchise for a lot of people and really critically acclaimed, the last movie. I feel like there was a definite lack of youth. I know in my house, when the 'Hunger Games' ad came on, it felt a little more exciting than certain parts of the telecast."

"The Academy obviously went out of their way to acknowledge the lack of youth appeal — but a handful of jokes in Billy Crystal's video montage and a little token Bieber isn't enough to fix it," added Brooke Tarnoff, senior editor for NextMovie.com. "It's a hard line to walk, enticing younger viewers but still voting with integrity. Maybe the answer is expanding Academy membership to more young actors who will be able to choose 'young people movies' with a clear conscience."

"I'm a house divided on the Oscars and the youth audience," said Shylah Addante, who runs "Hunger Games" fan site Down With the Capitol. "On one hand, as a card-carrying fangirl, I absolutely understand the outrage about last night's 'Potter' snub. For a franchise that has touched the hearts and minds, not to mention the wallets, of so many people around the world for a decade, the absence of Oscar gold left me feeling like the Academy was full of Dementors. On the other hand, the fiercely proud side of me wants a film to win an Oscar because it deserves it — not because it's a tentpole franchise or because it made one bajillion dollars worldwide. If 'Hugo' was any lesson to young Oscar viewers, it is that, in the right hands, a children's/young adult book can become a film worthy of major awards."

"It's a very, very hard line to teeter on. I have full sympathy for the people who are trying to organize it," Vilkomerson said. "It just shows how challenging it is to put on a really good Oscar telecast that makes everyone happy, that hits everything that everybody wants. It's a hard, hard show to put on. Maybe next year, 'The Hunger Games' will be nominated and that will be the easiest way to interlace these two worlds."

Addante agreed with next year's potential for "The Hunger Games." " 'Potter' and 'Twilight' may not have wooed the Academy, but 'Hunger Games,' with its decorated cast and crew, contemporary social and political messages and dramatic plot, may just have what it takes to finally give some critical legitimacy to young adult series and their fans."

The group had shot the clip &#8212; complete with glitzy shots of the Asian country &#8212; just before an earthquake and tsunami struck. The sentiment they feel for the video very much mirrors the emotion that went into making the song. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:645597" width="240" height="211"></div><p> "We're emotionally attached to it because we recorded the video in Japan five days before this whole thing went down, and it's like the type of song that gets to you in your heart," Taboo told MTV News when we <a href="/news/articles/1662309/black-eyed-peas-nyc.jhtml">caught up with the group at Terminal 5</a> in New York, where they were taping a show set to air tonight at midnight ET on MTV. The song is a sugary-sweet dance track about being infatuated with that special someone. "The message is knowing that when you're gone from somebody, especially when you're on tour, you can't get enough of them or you're just thinking about them and you just want to let them know that you're always there for them," Taboo explained. The band released the video last month, and they say they could never have known how much it would mean to them. "It was the easiest video I ever shot, because it was us living our lives," Fergie said at the time. "I love that it's showing a true perspective of how it can sometimes be lonely on the road away from our loved ones. It also demonstrates the love and connection we have with Japan. Our heart goes out to all of the Japanese people who have been affected by this natural disaster." <b>Don't miss the Black Eyed Peas' performance tonight at midnight ET on MTV.</b></p>

Cornell's denial comes just a day after <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/aerosmith/artist.jhtml">Aerosmith</a>Aerosmith guitarist <a href="http://aeronewsdaily.com/blog/2008/10/31/aerosmith-guitarist-says-page-trying-to-motivate-plant-to-return-to-zeppelin/" target="_blank">Brad Whitford confirmed reports</a> that frontman Steven Tyler recently met with Zeppelin for an impromptu jam session. "They did it for fun," Whitford said during an appearance on the syndicated show "Todd N Tyler Radio Empire." "I actually think Jimmy wanted Steven to come over and play a little bit because I think he was trying to light a fire under Robert." Rumors of a Zeppelin reunion tour have abounded since the iconic band played <a href="/news/articles/1576186/led-zeppelin-give-fans-a-whole-lotta-love-at-reunion-show.jhtml">a single reunion set</a> last year at London's O2 Arena. <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/twisted_sister/artist.jhtml">Twisted Sister</a>Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider added fuel to the fire last month when he revealed that the group was thinking of touring, with or without Plant. <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2008/10/13/another-led-zeppelin-rumor-almost-debunked/">According to Snider</a>, the rest of the band told Plant, " 'We're all rehearsed, we're ready to go. Here's a gazillion dollars on the table. If you don't do it, we're going out with this kid [Myles Kennedy].' " "And he can sing the sh-- out of Zeppelin," Snider added. "They're going to hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, 'OK,' and step in." In a recent interview, Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought to take over for Plant. "We are trying out a couple of singers," he said. "We want to do it. It's sounding great, and we want to get on and get out there." But Jones insists that he, Page and Bonham aren't interested in finding a Plant clone. "It's got to be right," he said. "There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be onboard." Of course, even if Zeppelin were to approach him, Cornell might be too busy to take over vocals for the band. His upcoming <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/timbaland/artist.jhtml">Timbaland</a>Timbaland-produced solo LP, <a href="/news/articles/1596730/chris-cornell-debuts-timbaland-produced-track-on-tv-show.jhtml"><i>Scream,</i></a> will be released within the next few months. Cornell told MTV News last month that some of his fans might consider <i>Scream</i> something of a departure, but he doesn't see it that way. "It makes me happy that there's this perception that I have a group of fans that I'm now sort of throwing a curve at and what their reaction will be," he said. "But I've been in this situation so many times already. When I put out [1999's] <i>Euphoria Morning,</i> my main goal was to create an album that sounded like nothing I'd done in Soundgarden, and I did that. I also had that with Temple of the Dog, where I showed up with songs that weren't necessarily riff-based. And then, of course, the pairing of me and members of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rage_against_the_machine/artist.jhtml">Rage Against the Machine</a>Rage Against the Machine had everyone sort of speculating about what that would sound like. "It feels like I've done this so many times that when it's presented to me as being a departure, I feel that's a misconception," he added. "I feel like that's my theme at this point."</p>

Adam Lambert's 'Whole Lotta Love': The Story Behind The Cover

Glam rocker tackled the legendary 1970 Led Zeppelin song for 'American Idol' rock night.
By Gil Kaufman

Photo: R. Mickshaw/Getty Images/ Fox

<P>Imagine a freight train speeding toward you at midnight. Or a rockslide barreling down a hill as you try to outrace it. That's the feeling of the ominous, chugging Jimmy Page riff that kicks off <MTVNLINK type="url" id="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</MTVNLINK>'s 1970 Stonehenge of rock, "Whole Lotta Love." And that's before singer Robert Plant leans into one of the nastiest, ecstatic rock screams this side of the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again." That's the song Adam Lambert chose to sing on <a href="/news/articles/1610708/adam-allison-shine-on-idol-rock-night.jhtml">"American Idol" rock night</a> Tuesday (May 5), and, needless to say, it was a challenge that the eyeliner-loving Los Angeles stage veteran was more than up for, hitting a series of high notes and rock screams that would have made Plant proud. It was a risky maneuver that paid off for Lambert, who chose a tune that came in at #75 on <I>Rolling Stone</i> magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2004. </p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;"> <embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtvmusic.com:84215" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="dist=http://www.mtvmusic.com" allowFullScreen="true" AllowScriptAccess="always"></embed></div><p> The legendary British rock act recorded the tribute to Chicago blues icon Willie Dixon during their second U.S. tour after working it out in their live show, including it on their 1969 classic album <I>Led Zeppelin II.</i> Like many of the songs Zeppelin performed early in their career, "Love" was a blues standard turned on its head with a heavy dose of crunching psychedelic guitar and thundering drums, courtesy of late drummer John Bonham. The song was based on a 1962 tune by another blues forefather, Muddy Waters, called "You Need Love," which was penned by Dixon. For Zeppelin's version, Plant customized the lyrics by adding some lyrical quotes from a few other songs Dixon wrote for Howlin' Wolf, "Back Door Man" and "Shake For Me," nailing the tricky vocal in a single take. It was also inspired by 1966's "You Need Loving" from the British rock group the Small Faces, for whom Zeppelin had great affection, but they also did not credit Dixon for his part in writing the original lyrics. The song became Zeppelin's first U.S. single and their only U.S. top 10 hit. Though their manager would not let them release singles in the U.K. because he thought it cannibalized album sales, the song was finally released as the band's only British single in 1997. Dixon sued Zeppelin over the song in 1985, claiming it borrowed too heavily from his "You Need Love," and Zeppelin reached an agreement with him, with Dixon using the money he received to set up a program that provided musical instruments for schools. A cornerstone of heavy rock, the tune -- which was the theme song for the long-running British countdown show "Top of the Pops" in the 1970s and '80s -- has been covered by dozens of artists over the years, from Tina Turner and Ben Harper to Prince, Slash, Leona Lewis, Train's Pat Monahan, the London Symphony Orchestra and Jane's Addiction. <b>Get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' <a href="/news/articles/1486475/mtv-news-american-idol.jhtml">"American Idol" page</a>, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.</b></p>

Coldplay Fans Find 'Paradise' During 'Today' Set

Band can't make up its mind on the meaning of new album title Mylo Xyloto, and fans struggle to pronounce it for MTV News.

<P><b>NEW YORK</b> -- Thousands of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/coldplay/artist.jhtml">Coldplay</a> fans wrapped around a dark Rockefeller Plaza on Friday morning (October 21) waiting to get into the group's "Today" show performance. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:704064" width="240" height="211"></div><p> While most woke up before sunrise, some even camped out overnight to catch the seven-time Grammy-winning band perform. Coldplay satisfied their fans' hunger, performing past hits like "Fix You" and "Viva la Vida" along with new singles "Paradise" and "Every Tear Drop Is a Waterfall." Two early birds from Long Island missed part of their school day to catch the free show. "We woke up at 4 a.m., missed the train, took another train," Rebecca Monachelli, 17, said. When asked if her parents were aware, the teen laughed, "My mom was the one who suggested to come here today!" A spray-painted set, in the identical colors of Coldplay's new album cover, lit up the plaza as dawn approached. When "Today" co-anchor Matt Lauer asked about the set, frontman Chris Martin admitted, "It's just random and fun. It's just us throwing caution to the wind, we know it looks kind of amateur, but it comes from the heart." The band's fifth studio album, <i>Mylo Xyloto,</i> due Tuesday, is said to be the band's <a href="/news/articles/1672756/coldplay-mylo-xyloto.jhtml">most electronic album</a> yet. MTV News took to the plaza to talk with fans and test their ability to pronounce the album title. Most fans laughed as they stumbled over the words <i>Mylo Xyloto,</i> while others confidently let it out. When the band was asked about the meaning behind the title, Martin said, "It doesn't really mean anything. It just means a group of four English people who are trying to come up with something that had no other association ... one day hopefully it'll mean something." Lauer quoted the band from a <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/16/arts/music/chris-martin-of-coldplay-discusses-mylo-xyloto.html?pagewanted=all" target="_blank"><i>New York Times</i></a> article, in which Martin had been quoted, "We came up with the idea of, what if you had musical digits, like xylo toes?" Martin smiled before responding, "I said that, but now I don't mean that anymore. We're still trying to figure out what to say. We should have figured it out before we came on national TV." <i>Did you catch Coldplay's performance on "Today"? Share your reviews in the comments!</i></p>

<P><a href="/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> is officially off the market. Reports were confirmed Friday (December 16) that the singer is <a href="/news/articles/1676120/britney-spears-is-engaged.jhtml">engaged to Jason Trawick</a>, her boyfriend of two years and "Criminal" video co-star. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:720382" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Fans of the pop princess sent their love and congratulatory wishes online shortly after the story surfaced. Everyone loves a comeback, and Britney Spears' fans are no exception. After a rough period in 2007 that included losing custody of her children and an infamous public head-shaving, Spears has spent the past three years getting her life together, and fans have taken notice. <a href="/news/articles/1676167/britney-spears-jason-trawick-engaged-timeline.jhtml"><b>Take a walk down memory lane with this timeline of Britney and Jason's relationship!</b></a> Facebook user Rosanna Principessa Fabbro wrote, "So happy for her. On Twitter, @Elina_BS made a <a href="http://twitpic.com/7u58ry" target="_blank">Twitpic</a> card for the singer wishing her and Jason well. Many of Britney's fans have been listening to her music for almost their entire lives, so news of her engagement felt especially personal for them. @mollypannell1 tweeted, "Is it weird how happy I am for @britneyspears? So cuuute. I still remember when her first video came out. I was 7!" Celebs also took to Twitter to send their love. Ryan Seacrest <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/RyanSeacrest/status/147786909651972096" target="_blank">tweeted</a> his approval of the union, "I used to work w/ Jason Trawick and can't think of a better guy and more perfect match for @BritneySpears. Congrats guys." Nick Cannon also <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/NickCannon/status/147764341058445312" target="_blank">tweeted</a> "Congrats @BritneySpears is engaged" and included a link to a <a href="http://www.nickcannon.com/post/britney-spears-jason-trawick-engaged" target="_blank">post</a> from his website that included a family photo of Britney, Jason and her two sons. If nothing else, this milestone in Britney's personal life has renewed her fans' love. @Mae_tweet wrote, "You can't help liking @britneyspears! With Britney's infectious, resilience &amp; strength. Born survivor. Credits to her X." <i>Share your well-wishes for the newly engaged couple in the comments below!</i></p>

Oscars 2012: Winners And Losers

From Emma Stone to Angelina Jolie's right leg, MTV News relives the best and worst of Sunday night's show.
By Eric Ditzian

Emma Stone arrives at the 84th annual Academy Awards

The winners of the 2012 Oscars have already been announced. Those lucky men and women have already gone off, gleaming statuettes in hand, to jump from celeb-filled party to celeb-filled party and learn how to carry a champagne glass in one hand and an Academy Award in the other without spilling the former and breaking the latter.

But the official winners' list only tells part of the story of Sunday night's show. There were nipples that might have slipped, legs that poked bizarrely out and an ash-filled urn malfunction on the red carpet. There were front-runners who fell short and dark horses who pulled out unexpected victories. Who were the true winners and losers at the Oscars this year? Let's take a look...

Winner: Billy Crystal
Hauled out from some cryogenic awards-show freezer where time does not pass and wrinkles are not allowed to crease one's face, Crystal emerged onto the Oscar stage for the ninth time ... and didn't make us fall asleep. Much to our surprise, he was consistently funny (and at times, shockingly and thankfully, a tad mean), and delivered a bunch of LOL-worthy video bits.

Loser: Anne Hathaway and James Franco
Remember when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences thought it needed to get all edgy, recruiting two hot young things to helm the biggest night in Hollywood? Hollywood, in turn, hated them. The ghosts of Hathaway and Franco's phoned-in performances could be seen every time Crystal belted out a parody tune or a Borscht Belt zinger to the sustained guffaws of his audience.

Winner: Jennifer Lopez's nipple
It was the singer's most talked-about release in at least a decade. And it may not have actually, ya know, been released from beneath her dress.

Loser: Angelina Jolie's right leg
'Cause, seriously, that was just weird.

Winner: The screenwriter who made fun of Angelina Jolie's right leg
After the "Descendants" won Best Adapted Screenplay, Jim Rash (who also happens to be a series regular on "Community") took to the stage and thrust his leg out in silent, searing mockery of Jolie's prominently displayed body part.

Winner: Emma Stone
She can sing, she can bust into an awesome old-timey voice, she can make fun of Ben Stiller and he'll just take it. The evening was filled with surprisingly funny presenters, but Stone's shtick won the night. Casting directors, listen up: Get that girl a big-screen musical stat!

Winner: Octavia Spencer
Long an awards-season darling, "The Help" ended up only nabbing a single Oscar. Best Supporting Actress winner Spencer made the best of the opportunity, breaking down in tears during a heartfelt acceptance speech in which she thanked everyone from her castmates to the state of Alabama.

Loser: Meryl Streep
Though she won Best Actress — which, according to our estimates, was the 37th Oscar win of her career — even Streep herself appeared sheepish to have swiped the category away from front-runner Viola Davis.

Winner: Sacha Baron Cohen
Handed the gift of a temporary ban from the Academy because he planned to walk the red carpet as his character from "The Dictator," Baron Cohen played the PR war game perfectly, releasing an amusing YouTube video before the show and then, after the Academy relented, spilling the faux-ashes of Kim Jong Il on Ryan Seacrest during a red-carpet interview.

Loser: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
The academy not only proved it had no sense of humor when it banned Baron Cohen, but showed it had no spine when it reinstated him and ended up posting his image on the front page of its Oscar website.

Loser: Michael Douglas
While it was great to see Douglas out on stage and looking so healthy after his battle with cancer, everyone was disappointed that his dad wasn't the one standing in front of the cameras. Then 94-year-old Kirk Douglas' show-stealing intro at last year's Oscars was bizarre and uncomfortable and kinda amazing.

Winner: Zach Galifianakis' inability to pronounce Zach Galifianakis' name
The white tux-clad presenter, perhaps reaching out to Michel Hazanavicius, his brother in unpronounceable surnames, butchered his own family name in the middle of a memorable bit with Will Ferrell.

Winner: The women of "Bridesmaids"
They may not have won an award, but their continuing bit about a Martin Scorsese drinking game was hilarious. And the fact that they were able to bring some humor to the shorts categories — comparing them to the male anatomy — was an impressive feat.

Loser: Bradley Cooper's mustache
Cooper might be the reigning Sexiest Man Alive, but his lip fuzz stood out as the night's creepiest collection of facial hair.

Loser: Bubba Smith
Every year, a handful of beloved actors are left off Oscar's "In Memoriam" montage. In 2012, poor Bubba Smith, who memorably played Hightower in the "Police Academy" movies and who passed away in August at the age of 66, didn't make the cut.

Who do you think were the biggest winners and losers of the night? Leave your comment below!
